The Burning Questions....

My Honorable Friend, who has quite an impressive and high-power job, is a victim of Potter-mania. I can't get on her case too much, since I have a touch of it myself (although both of us are immune from the Guitar Hero addiction, which another friend has--sadly--acquired). Anyhoo, there are, of course, 2 big questions out there.

#1 - Will Harry live or die?
My thoughts: Well, if JK Rowling is smart and serious about not writing an 8th book, she'd be smart to kill off Harry. Look at the example of poor L. Frank Baum. The guy writes a book and it's a hit. So he writes a sequel. After about the 3rd or 4th book, he doesn't want to write any more. Unfortunately, a house didn't fall on dear little Dorothy and Mr. Baum ended up writing Oz books for the rest of his life. Until recently (see below), I was positive that Harry would bite it, but now I'm not so sure.

#2 - Is Snape evil or good?
My thoughts: My honorable friend and I were discussing this just this past weekend. Literary tradition would be that Snape is good. However, while watching the latest Harry Potter movie, my Studmuffin made an observation I missed. "If the prophesy is 'One must die for the other to live,' then it's crap since both Harry and Dumbledore are alive." Hmmm....

So, an alternate theory that popped into my head is that Dumbledore is actually the chosen one and Snape had to kill him for Voldemort to live. Of course, this would mean that Snape is evil, which would be very upsetting to my honorable friend.

As it happens, MSNBC has a rather good article on this as well...read it here.

Oh, it's all fun stuff (unless Harry dies, Snape is evil and Draco is good--in which case my honorable friend might just throw herself off a cliff. That would not be fun....). I just wonder what will occupy the minds and souls of my friends once they finish the final Harry Potter book. I pray that it won't be Guitar Hero.
