Today I received an email from the president of my alma mater. Apparently, the NCAA has a bone to pick with them. In order to be appropriately politically correct, the NCAA decided that they must do a full examination of all college mascots and logos. Well, apparently our mascot (I guess it's a mascot) is okay...we're the "Tribe," which means community and trust and all that.
That's the good news. The bad news is that our logo was found to be "hostile and abusive" and, unless we wanted to be banned from every frickin' sporting event for the rest of the millenia, we need to change it. So, what was it that was so "hostile and abusive"? Two feathers.
Yes, that's right. These two feathers are apparenty threatening people everywhere to the point that they can't sleep at night. Yeah, whatever. So, the university decided--wisely, but it still pisses me off--not to fight this because their money is better spent on academics. That, my friends, is the sign of a good school!
If you want to read more of this ridiculous claim by the nobheads at the NCAA, you can go here. Meanwhile, I'm off to find all the two-feathered memorablia that I can get my hands on.
And now, a fitting quote:
“Hypocrisy in anything whatever may decieve the cleverist and most penetrating man, but the least wide-awake of children recognizes it and is revolted by it, however ingeniously it may be disguised."
-Leo Tolstoy
