Important meetings

So, I spent the majority of the day in meetings. The first was a 90 minute meeting on a project that I don't work on. I was called on to take notes. I have a feeling that this was nothing more than someone's attempt to remind me that I'm near the bottom of the totem pole in the office. Point taken.

Then, a half day "team day" where my team complained about such things as the color paper announcements the company sends out, the fact we don't get free gym memberships and, most importantly, improper use of sugar packets. One of my co-workers who is also dealing with job dissatisfaction issues made the comment to me and another co-worker (who ALSO is dealing with job dissatisfaction issues), "Here are 3 people who are contemplating leaving our jobs and we're discussing sugar packets?" Point taken, at least by me if by no one else.

The third meeting was a church council meeting where we discussed our lack of money for things such as electricity, our hope for a new building where we could better serve the community and prayers for our interim summer pastor who has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy.

And interesting comparison, if I do say so myself. I spend my days in an organization that is losing its focus and is throwing personal relationships to the wind. And I have to be there--at least if I want to pay my rent and buy cat food for Carmel. Then, in my non-working time, I am part of a group--a family--that provides fellowship and support to it's members and helps to feed hungry families in our community, assists refugees from 3rd world countries who come to our area and generally tries to make the world a better place.

I've heard at the office about prioritizing and making "sacrifices" for the things that matter. It's a good point--and far more important than sugar packets.
